"Sport Distance Calculator" allows you to calculate the distance and topography of a route made for sport, carried on foot, bike or rollerblading, by putting points on Google Maps.
Sitemap:
Start by positioning the map by entering your address or directly on the map (info)The map is centered by default on New York City, USA, adjust the zoom level, then simply add the points of your route on the map by clicking on it (info)Clicking with the left button mouse : adds one point on the map in free edition (where you want on the map).
Clicking with the right mouse button : add several points on the map by following automatically the road network, in pedestrian mode, without using the highways..
The distance between last two points and the total distance of the route are calculated under the map.
- It is also possible to calculate your average speed and your average time per mile (or per kilometer), by entering the time carried out on the route or conversely, it is possible to calculate the time needed to complete the route with your average speed. (info)For information : a runner beginner has an average speed including 9 and 11 km/h.
- An estimate of your expenditure in calories (running, cycling and rollerblading) and of your VO2max/vVO2max (running only) is available at down of the page.
- After clicking on the button "Altitude", you can calculate the topography of the route and export it in differing file formats.
(info)
- Button "GPX export" allows you to save a file to GPX with your route, to integrate it into a GPS (with elevation).
- Button "KML export" allows you to save a KML file that contains your route, to integrate it into Google Earth (with elevation).
- Button "TCX export" allows you to save a TCX file that contains your route, to integrate it into a Garmin (with elevation).
- Button "CSV export" allows you to save a CSV file that contains your route, to integrate it into spreadsheet (like Excel, OpenOfiice.Calc ...) with the semicolon as separator.
. You can import GPX or TCX files here.

Total distance of the route : m either : km
Total elevation change : m / ft | elevation change - : m / ft | elevation change + : m / ft
Departure altitude : m / ft | Altitude difference between start and finish : m / ft
On the map, after calculation of the topography, in red the elevation change +, in green the elevation change -, and in blue no elevation change.
The digital elevation model used for topography are : SRTM et GTOPO30.
They provide a horizontal resolution of 90 meters and includes every continent except Antarctica.
